We are members of Birmingham Beekeepers and British Beekeepers Association.
Hello, we are the Maynes. I’m Jo, and I started with an introduction to Honey Bees course at the lovely Martineau Gardens. Following this I had access to learning and bee inspections at a local apiary.
It soon became apparent the best option for us to learn together would be to go for it and have our own bees here at home. We are still learning but having fun and enjoying the honey.
We currently have two colony's in our back garden, we take care of them together and extract our honey here at home.
We are so lucky to have some excellent bee keepers close by that are so willing to share their enthusiasm and knowledge, they have helped us immensely.
What fun our first honey harvest was! Now we are enjoying understanding the different flavours of each honey crop and how we can maximise this.
To date we have had two crops each year, spring and summer. The taste has been quite different for each crop.
We have been taking part in the National Honey Monitoring Scheme which has allowed us a little more insight into plants the bees are foraging on.
Have you considered the health benefits of local honey and of course the amazing recipes you can try with it? Even just drizzled on some lovely ice cream is a win!
Prices begin at £5 per jar, local collection available and postage from £3.
